Mann Government Unveils Ambitious Sports Initiative to Foster Punjab's Global Sporting Legacy
Chandigarh, Punjab - The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has kicked off a groundbreaking initiative to support and nurture the state's upcoming sporting talent. The ambitious plan aims to set up sports nurseries across Punjab to identify and develop young athletes aged 6 to 17.
As part of this endeavor, the government has allocated ₹50 crores for the first phase of the project, which will see 250 sports nurseries established with world-class training facilities and experienced coaches. This is expected to benefit nearly 60,000 young athletes across Punjab.
The Mann government's commitment to supporting sports in Punjab is evident in its initiatives, including the organization of the "Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan" event, which features 37 different sports and aims to promote fitness and sporting culture among youth. The event will feature awards and certificates for participants, encouraging a love for physical activity.
The government has also doubled the prize money for national and international competitions in recognition of the hard work and dedication of its athletes. Furthermore, scholarships for top-tier athletes have been increased, with monthly allowances now set at ₹16,000 and ₹12,000.
Furthermore, Punjab is investing in sports education and research, with a dedicated budget of ₹34 crores for the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University to develop innovative programs in sports science, technology, management, and coaching. This initiative will enable athletes not only receive physical training but also scientific knowledge to excel in their respective sports.
As Punjab continues to produce talented athletes who shine on the global stage, the Mann government's efforts aim to create a lasting sporting legacy for the state. With its commitment to fostering talent, promoting fitness and education, Punjab is poised to set new benchmarks in sporting success.
"Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, our aim is to build a sporting legacy that will benefit future generations," said a government spokesperson.
