Manchester-based author David Peace has taken a triumphant step in his journey to win the prestigious William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award 2024, with his book "Munichs" making it to the shortlist.

Peace's novel chronicles the history of Manchester United in the months following the devastating Munich air crash in 1958 and the people who helped rebuild the club in its aftermath. The author's attention to detail and his passion for telling this untold story have captivated readers, with many praising Peace's work as a tribute to Jimmy Murphy, the assistant manager at Manchester United at the time.

When asked about what sparked him to write the book, Peace revealed that it was for his late father, who was an avid sports fan. The author realized that his own experiences playing football with his father gave him a unique perspective on the events of 1958. "What I wanted to do was to write a story not just for my fans, but for anyone who loves Football," Peace said.

Peace's book has garnered considerable praise from the literary circle, and the shortlisting is being hailed as an honor. The six-person judging panel of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award will now decide the winner of the prestigious award and the coveted £30,000 prize money.

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Tuesday, 19th November in central London, where they will receive the esteemed trophy and cash prize.
