Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Kidnapping and Murdering His Nephew
A court in the city on Thursday sentenced a 55-year-old man to life imprisonment for kidnappings and murdering his nine-year-old nephew. Tahir, a resident of Khurja Nagar, was found guilty by Additional Sessions Judge Varun Mohit Nigam after confessing to the crime during interrogation.
The case began when Shadan's family reported him missing on September 12, 2016. An extensive search was launched, and on the following day, his maternal uncle, Tahir, handed over a ransom note demanding Rs 3 lakh. However, witnesses had seen Tahir with Shadan just hours before he went missing.
During questioning, Tahir confessed to kidnapping Shadan for ransom and later murdered him by beating him to death with a brick at an abandoned brick kiln in Hazratpur. The police recovered Shadan's body along with the murder weapon and his slippers based on Tahir's testimony.
On Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge Varun Mohit Nigam handed down the verdict, sentencing Tahir to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 57,000.
