Munbaikidhan, November 20 (Alayaran.com): Maharashtra is set to go to the polls today, with over 100 million voters casting their ballots for all 288 Assembly seats. In preparation for the elections, the state government has issued directives regarding various institutional and service operations.

To facilitate voting, a public holiday has been declared in the state, with certain essential services remaining operational and others shutting down.

Here's a detailed list of services that will be open or closed in Maharashtra on polling day:

  • Banks: Closed for business. Despite physical branch closures, digital banking services including ATMs, UPI platforms, and online banking remain operational.
  • Stock Markets: No Trading has been scheduled due to the elections.
  • Offices: All government offices are set to be closed, along with private-sectored employees in Mumbai gaining a 4-hour paid leave window by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to cast their votes.
  • Liquor Shops: Closed on election day for maintaining public order and ensuring smooth voting proceedings.
  • Educational Institutions: All schools, colleges, and other institutions across the state have been closed to enable students and staff to participate in the electoral process.
  • Public Transport: Services will be operational with normal timings, including Metro and BEST bus services that will run until midnight.

Healthcare services, however, remain open for emergency cases.

In terms of elections, the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 is touted as a crucial contest between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The two rival alliances comprise key parties such as Shiv Sena, NCP, and BJP.

With this set backdrop, voters can plan their election day strategies accordingly. Voting begins at 7 am, so all interested candidates are encouraged to cast their votes promptly.
