MAHARASHTRA INSTALLS FIRST MADE-IN-INDIA SURGICAL ROBOT 'SSI MANTRA' AT NOBLE HOSPITALS

Pune, Maharashtra - In a groundbreaking move, the Indian state of Maharashtra has taken its first step into the field of medical technology by installing the SSI Mantra, India's first domestically manufactured surgical robot. The cutting-edge system was inaugurated at Pune's Noble Hospitals and Research Centre by Marathi actor Prasad Oak, marking the beginning of this innovative technology in the region.
Developed in 2017 by Dr Sudhir Srivastava, the SSI Mantra Surgical Robot is an advanced robotic system designed to enhance accuracy and outcomes in complex surgeries. Featuring five lean robotic arms, a 3D HD headset for immersive visual clarity, and a vision cart with 3D 4K imaging capabilities, this technology allows surgeons to operate with unparalleled precision.
Receiving approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), India's regulatory body, this indigenous surgical robotic technology has now become the first of its kind in the country to achieve this milestone. Noble Hospitals is poised to utilize this innovative system for a wide range of procedures, including general surgeries, cardiothoracic interventions, urology, gynaecology, and other complex operations.
The hospital recently conducted its first procedure using the SSI Mantra system - a life-saving robotic right extended hemicolectomy on a patient diagnosed with colon carcinoma. This success showcases the full potential of robotic systems in performing intricate and minimally invasive operations. Dr Ashish Pokharkar, an oncosurgeon at Noble Hospitals, hailed the introduction of this technology as a major breakthrough in Maharashtra's healthcare sector.
