MAHAKUMBH MELE 2025 UNDERWAY: MASSIVE GATHERING EXPECTED AT TRIVENI SANGAM
New Delhi, January 28 - The highly anticipated 45-day Mahakumbh Mela 2025 commenced on a grand note early Monday morning, marking the start of a rare celestial alignment that is expected to attract an estimated 1.5 crore (15 million) devotees at the sacred Triveni Sangam.
As part of the auspicious celebration, thousands of pilgrims gathered at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers to take a holy dip in the 'Shahi Snan' ritual on Paush Purnima. The event is a rare occurrence that happens only once every 144 years, making it a unique event in Hindu mythology.
Stringent security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of devotees, with over 10 lakh police personnel deployed across the city and at the festival grounds.
According to eyewitnesses, the atmosphere is electric as devotees from all parts of India and abroad assemble to pray, bathe, and seek blessings from the gods. The crowd is expected to swell over the next 45 days as millions of pilgrims flock to participate in this massive gathering.
As of now, the mahant of Akshardham Temple is performing pooja along with other leaders of various temples, a sign that preparations for the grand event are underway.
