Maha Kumbh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secy, DGP Announce New Security Preparations for Thousands of Pilgrims
Lucknow, February 2023: In an effort to ensure a "Clean and Digital" experience for thousands of pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Director General of Police Prashant Kumar have announced new security preparations.
The two highest-ranking officials visited the Kumbh area on Saturday to review preparations. During a meeting with officials, they directed police and administrative officers to focus on soft skills and use modern technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve security and facilities for pilgrims.
Chief Secretary Singh and DGP Kumar conducted an on-ground inspection of key locations, including the Airport Road and Subedarganj Bridge, to assess the progress of ongoing works. They also held a comprehensive review meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) to discuss plans related to digital services, cleanliness, police strategies, and other logistical arrangements for the Maha Kumbh.
According to sources, DGP Kumar emphasized the importance of safety and security during the mega event, referring to it as "the largest human gathering on earth and the largest Yajna". He also highlighted the role of AI in enhancing available security measures and stressed the need for police personnel to use modern technology to ensure smooth operations.
The officials provided guidance on key operational points, including preparations for setting up police stations and check posts at the Maha Kumbh. They also focused on completing essential infrastructure for police personnel in collaboration with departments concerned, maintaining seamless communication systems, and ensuring timely implementation of communication infrastructure.
"We want to ensure that pilgrims have a seamless experience during the Maha Kumbh," said DGP Kumar. "We are using modern technology, including AI, to improve security and facilities. We also focus on soft skills, so police personnel can interact with pilgrims in a professional manner."
The review meeting was attended by senior officials, including the ADG of Prayagraj, Commissioner, IG, the Mela Officer, and other key officials.
Maha Kumbh is one of the largest religious gatherings in India, attracting millions of pilgrims from across the country. The event requires careful planning and coordination to ensure safety and smooth operations.
The state government has announced various measures to ensure a peaceful and memorable experience for pilgrims, including improved security arrangements, enhanced digital services, and better logistics.
