Kris Gopalakrishnan Overtakes Father Narayana Murthy in Wealth with Rs 38,500 Crore
In a stunning turn of events, Kris Gopalakrishnan, the popularly known co-founder of Infosys, has surpassed his father and fellow co-founder Narayana Murthy to become one of India's richest people with a total net worth of Rs 38,500 crore.
According to the recent Hurun India Rich List 2024, Gopalakrishnan's wealth has overtaken that of Murthy, whose net worth stands at Rs 36,600 crore and ranks fifth among Bengaluru's richest individuals. Kris is now ranked fourth in terms of wealth in the city.
Born in 1955, Kris Gopalakrishnan has over four decades of professional experience and was one of the six founders of the Infosys corporation along with Murthy, K Dinesh, Nandan Nilekani, NS Raghavan, and SD Shibulal. He played a crucial role in shaping the company's technical aspects and customer support, laying the foundation for its subsequent expansion.
During his tenure as CEO and Managing Director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011, Kris is said to have led the company through critical years of growth and innovation. After leaving office, he continued to serve on the Board of Directors and later took over as Vice Chairman until 2014.
Apart from his business success, Gopalakrishnan is also involved in philanthropic activities. Along with his wife Sudha, he established the Pratiksha Trust to support brain research, for which he was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT-Bangalore and IIT-Madras.
Kris holds a master's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, in computer science and physics. Interestingly, his interest in IT began when he missed medical school by just two marks, leading him to pursue technology instead.
Currently, Kris serves as the Chairman of Axilor Ventures, a start-up incubator that has invested in several successful startups including Kaagaz, GoodHome, and EnKash.
