New Delhi, Dec 8: The return of Virat Kohli to the Ranji Trophy after a 13-year hiatus has sent shockwaves among cricket fans across the nation, leading to a major security breach at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground during a crucial match against Railways.

The third day of the Delhi-Railways encounter witnessed three enthusiastic fans attempting to break into the field, with over 20 guards being overwhelmed by their fervent attempts. The situation was swiftly brought under control by the security team, and no harm was done. However, the incident has highlighted safety concerns at domestic cricket venues.

Thousands of Kohli supporters flocked to the ground to catch a glimpse of their idol in action, transforming an ordinary Ranji Trophy match into a high-profile event. "It's not uncommon for international matches to witness security breaches due to overzealous fans," said Delhi off-spinner Shivam Sharma. "However, this incident should not have happened. There's always a risk involved."

Kohli himself took a firm stance on the matter, advising his handlers to ensure calm and composed handling of such situations by saying, 'Meri kisi se galti nahi hogi'. (No one got hurt).

The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) has closed off access to the Bishan Bedi Stand due to safety concerns after fans crowded near it dangerously close. Although Kohli's side won the innings victory, it thwarted his chance of batting again.

Kohli will proceed with Team India for the ODI series against England, which commences on February 6 and continues through February 19. His participation in the Ranji Trophy was dictated by a BCCI directive that mandates international players to participate in domestic cricket when available.
