Kashmir's Handicrafts Embark on New Journey as Chief Secretary Unveils Initiatives to Promote and Preserve Artisanal Heritage

SRINAGAR, JUNE 16: In a bid to showcase the rich craft heritage of Jammu & Kashmir to the world while upliftment socio-economic condition of artisans, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today chaired an high-level meeting that reviewed ongoing initiatives of Handicrafts and Handloom Department.
Calling for leveraging modern technological interventions for safeguarding genuine artisans interest, the Chief Secretary stressed on the need to implement Geographical Indications (GI), QR code tagging, traceability tools and digital authentication mechanisms, ensuring original handmade products from counterfeits. Furthermore, he urged department to follow up with government of India for expediting approval of dozens project proposals submitted for promotion various handicrafts.
He also called for speed tracking of signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with World Craft Council paving way for global footprint of J-K traditional craft's by establishing world craft hub and living crafts museum envisioned as an international centre for craftsmanship preservation innovation, and exchange.
In line with this initiative, Chief Secretary urged consistent promotion at national and international levels leveraging conventional, digital & social media platforms. Adding more to this is the establishment of ekta malls in Jammu & Srinagar envisioned platforms showcase & sell indigenous product enabling the artisans directly connect with consumers.
