Karan Johar Announces Release Date for Dhadak 2, Promises a More Profound Exploration

Mumbai: Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar has announced that his upcoming production, Dhadak 2, will premiere in theaters on August 1, 2025. The film, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in lead roles, marks a significant tonal shift from its predecessor.
Alongside the release date announcement, two emotionally charged posters were revealed, hinting at the film's intense narrative and thematic depth. The posters showcase Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in a poignant embrace, framed against a moody blue backdrop, accompanied by the tagline "Marne aur ladne mein se ek ko chunna ho… to ladna," which translates to "If you have to choose between dying and fighting… choose to fight."
This powerful message suggests that the film will explore themes of resistance and resilience, setting it apart from its predecessor. The raw emotion captured in the visuals indicates a significant tonal shift, promising a more profound exploration of the characters' struggles.
Earlier this year, Dhadak 2 faced hurdles at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its sensitive subject matter, which addresses caste oppression. Reports indicate that the film has now received a U/A 16+ rating after undergoing substantial edits.
The CBFC had questioned several dialogues deemed insensitive towards castes, and changes were made to scenes depicting public urination and humiliation of a character's father. Additionally, a poem recital was revised, and a revised disclaimer must be read aloud during the film, lasting 1 minute and 51 seconds.
Dhadak 2 is a Hindi adaptation of the acclaimed 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, directed by Mari Selvaraj. This remake marks the directorial debut of Shazia Iqbal, who aims to highlight caste-based social injustices through the film's narrative.
With a runtime of 2 hours and 26 minutes, Dhadak 2 seeks to shift focus from romantic themes to more pressing social issues. The film is produced by Dharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures, promising a compelling cinematic experience that resonates with contemporary societal challenges.
