KAILASH GAHLOT: AAP's Quiet Worker Leaves Party Amid Power Vacuum
New Delhi, November 18, 2024 - 12:32 IST
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Home Minister Kailash Gahlot quit the party on Sunday, following days of speculation about his future in the ruling party. In a statement released by the AAP, confirmed that Gahlot had left the party.
Gahlot was one of the top contenders to lead the party after Arvind Kejriwal lost his independence through being arrested along with three cabinet ministers Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia in August 10. Atishi, who has a few years under her belt as MLA, emerged the winner while all AAP sources suggested that Gahlot would be promoted to senior position since he was an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and cabinet Minister Until Sunday.
The AAP on Monday stated Kailash Gahlot had left the party amid pressure from central agencies. However, earlier news reports pointed out several AAP leaders are unhappy with Chief Minister Atishi, who is their 'newcomer' as well as a first time MLA elected in 2020.
Sources close to the party said Gahlot was upset over the AAP leadership's failure to give him more powers and importance despite his seniority. He had done the job quietly till date due to the fear of media criticism, but the AAP top brass not giving importance enough has been a blow to him.
