Justice Sanjiv Khanna Sworn in as 51st Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, November 11, 2024 – Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 a.m. today. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu, marking the beginning of Justice Khanna's tenure following the retirement of his predecessor, Justice DY Chandrachud.

Justice Khanna's appointment was confirmed by the Centre on October 24, after a recommendation by Justice Chandrachud. The outgoing Chief Justice received a heartfelt farewell on November 8, his last working day, acknowledging his contributions to the judiciary.

The ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan was attended by key figures from the judiciary, government officials, and other dignitaries, reflecting the significance of this transition in one of India's most esteemed constitutional positions.
