Jamshedpur University Celebrates 2nd Annual Sports Competition with Pride

The second annual sports competition of Jamshedpur Women's University was held at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur yesterday, bringing together students from various faculties to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and cultural unity. The event kicked off with a vibrant traditional tribal dance, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony led by Chief Guest Hari Kumar Keshari, IAS, Administrative Officer, Commissioner of Kolhan Division, and Vice Chancellor of Jamshedpur University.

The prestigious competition featured participants from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Society (NSS), Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational Studies faculties, showcasing their exceptional athletic skills. Notable guests including Olympian Ankita Bhagat, Padma Shri and Dronacharya Award winner Purnima Mahato, and International Handball Coach Dr. Hasan Imam Malik attended the event, taking particular pride in celebrating the achievements of Jamshedpur Women's University students.

Chief Guest Hari Kumar Keshari hailed sports as an integral part of overall personal development, stating that it fosters teamwork, discipline, and leadership. According to him, "Sports highlight the inclusive side of personality." Aditi Kumari then administered the oath to participants, ensuring that fair play and sportsmanship dominated the entire competition.

As the event featured a diverse range including badminton (singles and doubles), table tennis, chess, volleyball, kabaddi, yoga, 1500-meter race, javelin throw, high jump, and triple jump events, several top-achievers received Awards of Excellence for their remarkable performances in national competitions such as Karate, Handball, Tennis Ball Cricket, NCC Youth Exchange Programme to Bhutan.

Key university officials including Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, Registrar Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal, Controller of Examinations Dr. Rama Subramanyam, and Finance Officer Dr. Javed Ahmed attended the event. The Jamshedpur Women's University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anjila Gupta praised the successful event as a vital step in creating an environment that combines academic rigor and sporting excellence for students.
