Jammu and Kashmir Encounter Leaves Army Soldier Dead, 3 Injured as Terrorists Engage Security Forces in Kishtwar

A dramatic encounter between security forces and terrorists erupted in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district over the weekend, leaving one Indian Army soldier dead and three others injured. The operation, which began after the killing of two Village Defence Guards, has been ongoing since Saturday.

According to reports, the soldiers from the 2 Para (Special Forces) came under fire while attempting to apprehend the terrorists in Keshwan forest. The firefight ensued, resulting in the fatal injury of Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, a 42-year-old junior commissioned officer.

The encounter appears to be an escalation of violence in the region, following a series of attacks on civilians and security forces since the new government took office. The Jaish-e-Mohammad offshoot, known as the Kashmir Tigers, has claimed responsibility for the killing of two Village Defence Guards, warning those involved with the VDG of impending consequences.

Meanwhile, an operation is currently underway in Sopore, Baramulla, where security forces are engaged in a firefight with terrorists. It is believed that two to three militants may be trapped inside.

Rakesh Kumar's mortal remains were brought back to his village in Barnog, Mandi district, after being killed in action. Several government leaders have paid condolences to the family of the martyred soldier, including Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur. The last rites for Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar are scheduled to be performed on Tuesday.

The nation is mourning the loss of a brave soldier who laid down his life in the line of duty protecting the country from terror threats. His ultimate sacrifice will forever be remembered, and he will always be respected for his selflessness and bravery.
