JALGAON RAIL ACCIDENT Deaths Rise to 13, Sparks National Condolence
Mumbai, Maharashtra - The Jalgaon rail accident, which claimed four Nepali nationals among its victims, has now stood the test of time with a death toll of 13, officials disclosed on Thursday.
The gruesome incident in the Maheji and Pardhade train stations near Pachora approximately 400 kilometers from Mumbai came into being at around 5:05 p.m. last Wednesday when passengers of an emergency pull the chain triggering the brakes due to which it became stuck. However, many believed that a fire was happening inside the train leading them to take steps onto another track.
In what seems like an unfolding nightmare, they were struck by a speeding oncoming Karnataka Express traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi, thereby claiming 13 lives.
To cope with this national tragedy authorities have announced monetary compensation for families of those who lost their life with each getting Rs 1.5 lakh while those wounded in the incident received financial support from authorities by giving out a compensation amount of Rs 50,000 and lesser support being provided to those afflicted with minor injuries at the sum of Rs 5,000.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently expressed sympathy on Wednesday towards families affected by this rail accident saying that he feels distressed over the untimely loss of lives and also shared condolences on expressing heartfelt support in hopes of healing speedy recoveries for the patients admitted to hospital.
Apart from his emotional message to concerned family members he mentioned the assistance authorities are making available to these unfortunate victims.
Recently Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared financial aid ranging from Rs 5 lakh to all families affected by the incident and expressed fervent hopes that God may assist these unfortunate passengers in their recuperation.
