IPL 2025 Mega-Auction Looms: Teams Face Scrappage of Existing Rosters

The curtains of uncertainty are closing in on the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the 2025 mega-auction approaches, scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This year's auction promises to be one-for-the-memory, with most teams expected to revamp their lineups amidst a sea of star power and vast financial resources.

The mega-auction process has proven to be an essential tool for franchises looking to rebuild from scratch or fine-tune their squads. With a maximum of six players retained at any given time, the pool of talented cricketers is up for grabs across the country. According to reports, over 1,574 cricketers are lined up for this year's auction.

The financial stakes are high with each team managing a maximum limit of Rs 120 crore. Among these cash-rich franchises, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore have already begun laying down their foundations by retaining key players.

Punjab Kings, with the most available purse money at disposal (Rs 110.5 crore), currently boasts only two retained players - Shashank Singh for Rs 5.5 crore and Prabhsimran Singh for Rs 4 crore - leaving a whopping 23 slots up for grabs.

RCB has bolstered their side by holding ontoVirat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal but now stands with Rs 83 crore at its disposal to be utilized in the next phase.

The teams, who have been in a financial bind initially face huge challenges while participating in this mega auction as teams like the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals have already spent their money on key retentions.

As such, before the IPL 2025 auction commences, here is the list of each team's available purse money for the mega-event in addition to those names of their biggest retentions for the upcoming season:

Punjab Kings: Rs 110.5 crores; Shashank Singh (Rs 5.5 crore) and Prabhsimran Singh (Rs 4 crore)

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Rs 83crore : Virat Kohli (Rs21 crore), Rajat Patidar (Rs11 crore,) Yash Dayal (Rs5 crore)

Delhi Capitals: $73 crores; Axar Patel (Rs 16.50 crore) and Kuldeep Yadav Rs(13.25 crore).

Gujarat Titans: Rs69crore: Rashid Khan (Rs18 crore), Shubman Gill for (Rs16.5 crore) and Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia & Shahrukh Khan 4crores each

Lucknow Super Giants :$69 crores- Nicholas Pooran(Rs21 crore,) Ravi Bishnoi Rs(11 crore), Mayank Yadav Rs(11 crore) Mohsin Khan Rs (for4 crores)

Chennai Super Kings: Rs55crore; Mahendra Singh Dhoni (uncapped, for 4 croreRs) Ruturaj Gaikwad Rs18 crore, Ravindra Jadeja & Shiva Dube in this mega auction
