INSA Hosts 90th Annual General Meeting in Chennai

The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) gathered its top scientists, industry experts, and key stakeholders for its 90th Annual General Meeting held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) campus in Chennai on Tuesday. The meeting witnessed an impressive array of participants from diverse backgrounds, including early-career researchers, young innovators, members of India's scientific community, and esteemed experts.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr P Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academic), SRM IST, who emphasized the significance of hosting the event at his institution. "This meeting brings together India's rich legacy in research and innovation," he said, highlighting the country's strong tradition in mathematics, astronomy, metallurgy, and other fields.

In a keynote address, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, president of INSA, discussed the critical aspects of science and technology structures and processes, as well as the sustainability factor. He dissected the challenges facing India's science ecosystem, including structural limitations, performance disparity, funding gap, regulatory hurdles, intellectual property concerns, public perception issues, global competition, climate change pressures, demographic shifts, technological upheaval, and digital disruption.

Furthermore, the event marked the induction of new INSA Fellows, with a ceremony attended by prominent members from academia and industry. The meeting also paid tribute to outgoing council members for their invaluable contributions to the academy over the years.
