Innovative Prototypes Showcase Way to a Sustainable Future
The 48th Eastern India Science Fair (EISF) has concluded at the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, highlighting the potential of innovative technology to make a positive impact on society.
A notable exhibit was a drone prototype designed by Vidyasagar College students, Samrat Sasmal, Supratim Chandra, and Pratik Surai. Dubbed Project Asha, the model aims to deliver blood and life-saving medicines in emergency situations, navigating traffic congestion and difficult terrain. The drone boasts a 2km non-stop flight capability and can carry up to 500gm of cargo, with a potential to save lives and alleviate panic in cities.
Another remarkable invention showcased at the fair was a smart boot designed by Aryan Vats, a Class IX student from Army Public School, Bengdubi. The AI-powered camera-equipped shoe scans surroundings and sends alerts to users through earphones, leveraging ChatGPT's language model. The sensor detects objects up to 100cm and includes an SOS button that shares the wearer's live location with contacts in emergency situations.
The fair was attended by students from neighboring states and featured over 100 models and 25 projects submitted by around 350 participants. One of the notable entries was a water treatment plant designed by Mukesh Marandi, Class IX student at Swami Pranavananda Vidya Mandir in Jharkhand's Dumka.
The exhibits lived up to the fair's thematic goal of "Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future." Educators praised this year's displays as among the largest shows of innovative science models by students in eastern India, attracting significant attention.
"This fair showcases the boundless creativity and innovation of our students," said Tarun Das, education officer at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum.
