India's Modi Arrives in Cyprus for Historic Visit

Nicosia, Cyprus - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Cyprus on Sunday for a two-day visit, marking his first trip to the island nation in over two decades.

During his trip, PM Modi will hold talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. The meeting is seen as a significant step towards expanding Indo-Cyprus relations, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and security.

The visit has been described by the Indian government as "historic" and a sign of "deepened bonding" between the two nations. Cypriot President Christodoulides welcomed PM Modi at Larnaca International Airport, calling it a "new chapter in a strategic partnership that knows no limits".

Separately, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos on arrival, saying the visit was expected to deepen longstanding bilateral ties and the India-EU partnership.

The three-nation tour is also an opportunity for PM Modi to express gratitude to partner countries for their support in India's fight against cross-border terrorism. From Cyprus, he will head to Canada to participate in the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

This visit marks a significant moment in Indo-Cyprus relations, solidifying ties between the two nations in the midst of global uncertainty.
