India's Latest Satellite Launch: GSAT-20 Enters Into Orbit

ISRO's Master Control Facility (MCF) in Karnataka Confirms Successful Transfer of Initial Communication and Control Over Advanced GSAT-19 Satellite

Bangalore, India - In a significant milestone for the Indian space program, the GSAT-23 satellite has successfully transitioned to the control of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), following its launch by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket last week.

On Tuesday, the GSAT-20 satellite achieved orbit and was subsequently handed over to ISRO's MCF in Hassan, Karnataka. Weighing 4,700 kg, the satellite is set to enhance broadband connectivity across India, with a focus on rural and remote regions.

According to sources, the initial communication and control of GSAT-20 were transferred to ISRO's Master Control Facility (MCF) on November 20. The MCF teams are currently executing complex orbital manoeuvres to guide the satellite from its transfer orbit to a geostationary orbit, a distance of approximately 36,000 kilometres.

The Indian Ministry of Science and Technology has hailed this achievement as a significant milestone for India's satellite communication capabilities. Dr Jitendra Singh stated that GSAT-20 will play an important role in extending internet services to regions with limited connectivity options.

"GSAT-23 is a testament to our country's growing involvement in space initiatives globally, and this partnership with SpaceX demonstrates our capabilities," Dr Singh said in a statement.

Once the satellite reaches its final orbit, it will undergo in-orbit testing to verify the performance of its high-capacity Ka-band payload. The payload boasts data transmission speeds of up to 48 Gbps, solidifying ISRO's position as one of the most advanced communication satellites worldwide.

SpaceX's launch cooperation marks a significant milestone in India's growing presence in space exploration and collaboration with other nations.

As the MCF teams continue to monitor and adjust GSAT-20's positioning, the Indian people can look forward to faster internet speeds and improved connectivity across the country.
