India's Growing Defense Capabilities Send Shivers Down Pakistan's Spine
New Delhi: The Modi government is ramping up its defense capabilities to unprecedented levels, sparking concerns among neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan.
According to a recent report published by the Indian Defense Research Wing, New Delhi is working tirelessly to strengthen its military might with cutting-edge technology, including hypersonic missiles, artificial intelligence (AI), multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), and ballistic missile defense systems.
India's focus on developing next-generation defense technology has raised eyebrows in Islamabad. Professor Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, a defense analyst at Islamabad's Quaid-e-Azam University, has warned that India's commitment to hypersonic missiles will significantly alter the regional strategic balance and increase security tensions.
The Indian government has successfully tested its Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV), marking an important step toward operational hypersonic weapon systems. These missiles can travel at speeds over five times the speed of sound, making them a major challenge for conventional missile defense systems.
Experts believe that India's investment in hypersonic missiles will enhance its capability for immediate and precise attacks. The development comes as no surprise to Pakistan, which has already expressed concerns about India's rapidly expanding military capabilities.
Furthermore, India is placing significant bets on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its military. AI-equipped systems are expected to offer various advantages, including improved data analysis and decision-making. This could lead to significant progress in autonomous vehicles, surveillance systems, and cybersecurity, modernizing India's defense structure further.
MIRV technology, which allows a single ballistic missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads capable of being aimed at different targets, is also seen as a game-changer for India's strategic missile program. According to reports, the Agni-VI might have MIRV capabilities, although this has not been officially confirmed yet.
The Indian government's two-tier BMD system, designed to intercept incoming missiles at high and low altitudes, is also expected to significantly strengthen its defense posture.
As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to simmer, experts warn that the situation remains volatile. While some welcome India's expanding defense capabilities as a demonstration of its commitment to regional security, others are concerned about the potential implications for regional stability.
