India's Dreams of WTC Final Dashed as Australia Clinches Series 3-1

SYDNEY: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was finally reclaimed by Australia after 10 years as they clinched the five-match Test series 3-1 against India. The victory paved the way for the Australian team to secure a spot in the World Test Championship final alongside South Africa, who are already assured of the summit clash.

Australia required only six wickets to win at a rate of one run per over on Sunday. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and put India's batmen on trial with an opening partnership of 49 between Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, while Rishabh Pant made a half-century but it was not enough to save the day.

In a dismal display, India were reduced to just 157 all out in 39.5 overs, scoring at a dismal rate of approximately one run per over. Meanwhile, Australia won two wickets for just five runs and were finally bowled out on 162 runs.

India's lackluster performance has been exposed and the team has several points to ponder about their future ahead in transition phase.

Despite Jasprit Bumrah taking the player of the series honors with his impressive figures of 32 wickets, his struggles due to back spasms were a major blow. After trying some shadow bowling exercises during the warm-up session, but ultimately ruled out from action, Bumrah took three key wickets however many of his teammates failed miserably.

The batting frailties were on display throughout the series and now that India head home they will have several areas to look into their batting lineup which seems heavily reliant on one player.
