India's Chess Sensation Gukesh Set for Title Showdown as Favouritism Builds Around Him
Chennai, India - Indian chess sensation D.Gukesh is making waves as a formidable contender in the upcoming World Chess Championship in Singapore. The 18-year-old Grandmaster has had an extraordinary year so far, with several impressive performances under his belt.
Gukesh's determination to emerge triumphant in the tournament has made him a strong favourite to take home the title, with many analysts tipping him over Ding Liren of China. However, Gukesh has downplayed recent predictions and focused on the process, saying "I just think whoever shows up every day as the best will win the game eventually."
In the past 10 months, Ding Liren has struggled to find success in the Classical format, failing to secure a win since January this year. This makes Gukesh's chances even stronger. As per FIDE, the governing body for chess, Gukesh is now considered the significant favourite, but remains confident that his performance will be solely dependent on his daily efforts.
When asked about his strategy for the world championship showdown, Gukesh refused to reveal much, simply stating "It'll be an interesting match for sure. We are both strong players, and there’ll be a lot of exciting games."
Gajewski, as mentioned earlier, will be Gukesh`s trainer for this upcoming event.
This year has already been a historic one for Indian chess, with the country completing a golden sweep at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Hungary. A win over Ding Liren would mark only the second time an Indian has won the title, following in the footsteps of legendary Viswanathan Anand.
The world championship battle will take place from November 25 to December 13 in Singapore in a best-of-14-games format and will be an all-Asian clash for the first time.
