Indian Workplaces Undergo Significant Transformation Amidst Rising Adoption of AI and Sustainability
New Delhi: Indian workplaces are witnessing a profound transformation as businesses increasingly incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their operations. A recent survey by JLL, a global real estate services firm, revealed that 90 per cent of organizations in India require employees to work from the office for at least three days a week, surpassing the global average of 85 per cent.
The trend is expected to strengthen, with 54 per cent of organizations in India anticipating an increase in office days by 2030. This shift towards office-based work has significant implications for the way businesses operate and design their workplaces.
However, AI is not only transforming workforce operations but also reshaping workspace management. According to the survey, nearly all business decision-makers (95 per cent) in India plan to accelerate investments in AI over the next five years, as 94 per cent foresee its impact on workforce operations.
The growth of sustainability initiatives also gained prominence in the corporate sector, with 77 per cent of respondents indicating plans to increase spending on environmentally-friendly practices. Additionally, nearly half (50 per cent) of organizations expressed a willingness to pay premiums for buildings with top-tier green certifications by 2030.
Despite these optimistic trends, challenges persist. Difficulty in long-term planning is cited by 44 per cent of Corporate Real Estate (CRE) leaders, attributed to the rapidly changing organizational landscape. Limited integration with other business units emerged as another significant hurdle, identified by 46 per cent. To overcome these hurdles, fostering partnerships and aligning corporate goals with CRE objectives are deemed crucial.
The survey paints a comprehensive picture of India's workplace evolution, showcasing the country's adaptability to emerging technologies and sustainability concerns while highlighting areas that require attention for smoother transitions.
