Indian Army Achieves Major Milestone with Project Akashteer

New Delhi: The Indian Army has taken a significant step towards modernising its defence capabilities with the development and phased induction of Project Akashteer, a key initiative aimed at providing India with a robust and responsive air defence network.

A recent simulation exercise demonstrated the real-time validation of Project Akashteer, which is part of the Army's "Decade of Transformation" and "Year of Tech Absorption". The project has achieved a major milestone in enhancing the Indian Army's air defence capabilities, making it more agile and precise in responding to contemporary aerial threats.

According to sources, the team behind Project Akashteer deserves commendation for their efforts, which have realised a transformative leap in the Indian Army's air defence capabilities. The system introduces a fully automated and integrated air defence network, offering unparalleled responsiveness and reliability.

The project features several groundbreaking components, including comprehensive sensor fusion, automated operations, decentralised engagement authority, advanced real-time air picture, built-in redundancy and scalability, and flexible deployment across formations. These features make Akashteer an efficient and effective platform for defending India's skies.

The phased induction of Project Akashteer is already underway, with 107 units delivered and another 105 expected by March 2025. The remaining units will be delivered by March 2027, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the Indian Army's defence units and formations.

With Project Akashteer in place, the Indian Army has positioned itself at the forefront of air defence technology, safeguarding India's airspace and committing to innovate and enhance capabilities in response to evolving security dynamics.
