India Threatens Fierce and Punitive Action Over Ceasefire Violations

New Delhi: The Indian Ministry of Defence has issued a stern warning to Pakistan, threatening a "fierce and punitive" response to any further ceasefire violations in the wake of reported cross-border firing and drone intrusions.

The warning was made public by Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who disclosed that he had spoken with his Pakistani counterpart at 15:35 hrs on May 10 regarding a mutually agreed ceasefire. The ceasefire took effect from 17:00 hrs the same day, he said.

However, despite the agreement, Pakistan reportedly breached the ceasefire by entering Indian airspace. Lt Gen Ghai stated that a hotline message was sent to Pakistan conveying clear intent to respond "fiercely and punitively" if such violations were repeated.

The development comes just hours after Indian authorities informed of the alleged Pakistani incursions into Indian-administered territory. While India did not report any Pakistan-bound cross-border firing, the DGMO confirmed that airspace intrusions were effectively countered by Indian forces.

Lt Gen Ghai clarified that while Pakistan had avoided crossing the Line of Control (LoC) with ground troops, the country's efforts to breach Indian aerial defenses were met with swift action.
