India on Path to Developed Nation Status by 2047: Vice-President
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh - In a speech at IIT Kanpur, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized that India's demographic dividend, natural resources, and talent pool, combined with supportive policies, make it inevitable for the country to reach developed nation status by 2047.
Addressing students at the institute, Dhankhar urged innovators to tap into these factors to connect local products with global markets. He cited Kanpur's leather industry as a potential example of how domestic goods can be exported internationally.
The Vice-President also highlighted India's growing innovation landscape, stating that patent filings increased from 42,763 in 2014-15 to 92,000 in 2023-24, positioning the country as the sixth-largest globally. He attributed this progress to a supportive ecosystem, affirmative policies, and initiatives that have made work culture more conducive.
India boasts the third-largest startup ecosystem, home to 1,50,000 startups, valued at $354 billion, with 118 unicorns among them. IIT Kanpur has previously supported over 250 startups worth $1 billion, including over 100 women-led ventures, which Dhankhar acknowledged as a significant achievement.
The Vice-President appealed to industries, trade associations, and corporates to invest in innovation, stating that they are already making a positive impact on the nation's growth. He emphasized the importance of solution-oriented innovation, underlining the need for innovators to engage with diverse stakeholders across sectors, from agriculture to healthcare.
Dhankhar concluded by noting that India's prosperity is linked to global stability and harmony, highlighting the country's growth potential as a significant contributor to world peace.
