India Emerges as Global Leader in Science and Technology with Launch of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "Viksit Bharat" - a developed India - is being driven by the country's commitment to scientific advancement and innovation, according to Union Minister for State (I&C) Dr. Jitendra Singh, who inaugurated the 10th edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024 in Guwahati.

Addressing the audience at the festival, titled "India as the Global Manufacturing Hub for Science and Technology," Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that science is at the core of achieving this ambitious goal. He highlighted six key decisions made by the Modi government to promote scientific advancement:

  1. Establishment of the ₹1 lakh crore National Research Foundation
  2. Launch of a ₹1,000 crore Venture Fund for space startups
  3. Mission Mausam for enhanced weather forecasting
  4. Bio-E3 initiative for leveraging biotechnology for environmental, economic, and employment growth
  5. "One Nation, One Subscription" policy for universal access to academic journals for over 2 crore students
  6. Extension of the Atal Innovation Mission to foster innovation globally

Dr. Jitendra Singh stressed that India is quickly emerging as a global leader in science and technology, with significant investments and policy frameworks driving advancements like quantum mission and semiconductor manufacturing.

The festival's diverse range of activities includes the Museum of Moon, 3D laser show, Reimagining Bharat Exhibition, Young Scientist Conclave, Science Defence Expo, and exclusive scientific discoveries showcasing the Northeast's resourcefulness. The "Whole of Science" approach unites all science ministries and policymakers under one roof, extending to a "Whole of Government" strategy and a broader vision of a "Whole of Nation" effort.

With over 10,000 students participating from across India, IISF 2024 has become an unparalleled platform for inspring the next generation of scientists and innovators. The festival's luminaries include top scientific minds such as Dr. VK Saraswat, Dr. A.K. Sood, and Dr. N. Kalaiselvi.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed optimism about India's scientific future, stating that young startups will lead the nation to its destiny as a global leader by 2047.
