India Emerges as Global Development Hub Under PM Modi's Vision

KUWAIT, January 13, 2024: At a key address to the Indian diaspora in Kuwait on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's trajectory as a global development hub and growth engine.

Speaking at the "Hala Modi" community event, held at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex, PM Modi highlighted India's rapid transformation in various fields — technology, infrastructure, and sustainability. He stated that today, India is the fifth-largest economy in the world, leading the world in fintech with a third-largest startup ecosystem globally. The country also ranks second in mobile manufacturing.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that under his vision, India will become a hub for development and innovation: "The India of the future will be the hub of the development of the world... it will be the growth engine of the world." He cited several indicators that underscored India's progress, including the expansion of India's optical fibre network by 8 times the distance between the Moon and Earth over the last decade.

PM Modi also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with countries like Kuwait. The Prime Minister noted that Indian startups offer immense opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as fintech, healthcare, smart cities, and green technology. Furthermore, India's potential to become a global skill capital is seen as an opportunity for nations such as Kuwait to benefit.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Indian diaspora in strengthening the relationship between India and Kuwait. He praised their hard work and contributions, often recognised by both the Kuwaiti government and society. The E-Migrate portal, he noted, is a technology-driven initiative aimed at ensuring the welfare of foreign workers from India.

Regarding shared goals with Kuwait, PM Modi discussed alignments between the visions of the two nations, noting that India strives for innovation while Kuwait aims to become a dynamic economy. He highlighted ongoing efforts in strengthening India's economy and outlined possibilities for new partnerships, particularly in areas such as skill development and innovation.

As part of his visit, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to the Indian diaspora attending Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas and Maha Kumbh events scheduled for January 2025. Emphasising their active role in the journey toward a developed India (Viksit Bharat), he expressed excitement at the prospect of collaborative engagement.

A highlight of PM Modi's visit was his nod to late actor Dilip Kumar, who had inaugurated an Indian restaurant in Kuwait and would be addressed as a guest of honour at an upcoming ceremony — reflecting on enduring cultural ties between India and Kuwait.
