India Can Top World Test Championship Points Table with Australian Win
Mumbai, Dec 11 (ANI): With India currently sitting at No. 3 position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, the Indian men's cricket team is still alive in the race to qualify for the WTC final, scheduled to take place at Lord's from June 11 to 15 in 2025.
After dropping two spots after losing the second Test against Australia by 10 wickets inside three days, India has 57.29 PCT% on the WTC points table. However, with three Tests left against Australia, Rohit Sharma-led side can not only finish in the top two but also have a realistic chance of topping the points table.
If India wins all upcoming three tests, it will finish the WTC 2023-25 cycle with 64.04 PCT% and move close to securing the No. 1 position in the points table. Given this scenario, Australia's chances of taking over the top spot are reduced, as they would struggle to keep up the scoreline.
However, if South Africa wins against Pakistan to secure 2-0 series, then they have a chance of piping India and setting up a repeat final matchup in 2025.
According to the latest standings, South Africa currently tops the points table with 63.33 PCT%. If they win the upcoming match, their score will increase to above 69.44 PCT%, pushing them ahead of India.
However, it is also possible that South African might finish second if they lose only one test against Pakistan and then beat Australia to secure third place in WTC standings.
On other hand, for India winning all the three tests, their minimum score will be around 64% in points table, depending on result of the test played between Australian and South african.
Accordingly here are the possibilities for two teams with possible different outcome results-
India - Australia Test series Result: Won All 3 Tests (Possible) Result : Lost One and Won Two
Possibility for winning first- Rohit's Team - Possibility for losing second- Pakistan wins
Possibility for winning Second- India gets 69.44%
