India and England to compete under the auspices of the 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy'

New Delhi: India's cricketing world will witness a significant twist as the five-match Test series between India and England, set to start later this week, will now be called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and legendary pacer James Anderson. The decision, jointly taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), replaces the Pataudi Trophy that has been retired.
Reacting to this milestone decision, 52-year-old Tendulkar, considered one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, hailed Test cricket as the highest form of the game. "For me, Test cricket embodies life – you give your best, and if things go wrong, it gives you another day to regroup, think, unlearn, and bounce back," he said. Describing Test cricket as the highest form of the game that teaches endurance, discipline, and adaptability against all odds, Tendulkar attributed his foundation in cricket to this format.
With this new honor, India and England are expected to add another layer of prestige and excitement to their decade-long rivalry. Former English pacer James Anderson also welcomed the news, saying it is a proud moment for him and has marked an unforgettable chapter in England-India Test cricket. The veteran cricketer expressed his gratitude toward fans and said that he looks forward to witnessing compelling competitive cricket.
The BCCI praised both Tendulkar and Anderson, stating that the decision celebrates their unparalleled contributions. Roger Binny, President of BCCI, described it as a momentous occasion for cricket. "The 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy' will not only celebrate their individual legacies but also serve as a permanent reminder of the fierce yet respectful rivalry that has defined India-England Test cricket for decades," he said.
Furthermore, former BCCI Secretary and current honorary secretary, Devajit Saikia, stated that both Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson have inspired millions across the globe. The President of ECB also expressed his admiration towards the new trophy and stated it as a celebration of these two incredible figures in world cricket.
With India-England Test series now renamed an iconic honorific 'The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy', fans will witness history unfolding at first hand.
