IIT Kharagpur Partners With TCS to Establish State-of-the-Art Research Centre
Kolkata, West Bengal: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has launched a groundbreaking collaboration with global technology consulting firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), establishing a cutting-edge research centre at its renowned research park in New Town, Kolkata. This strategic partnership aims to drive innovation and technological advancements in the fields of digital health, robotics, intelligent systems, edge computing, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Located at IIT Kharagpur's research park, the centre will be home to three specialized laboratories housing over 150 TCS scientists. The labs will focus on emerging technologies such as sensing and communications, edge computing and analytics, and robotics and visual computing. Equipped with advanced tools, the facility is designed to accelerate innovations and contribute to groundbreaking technological breakthroughs.
In addition to conducting research, the centre will also provide a platform for collaborative projects funded by TCS in partnership with academic institutions like IIT Kharagpur. A distinctive aspect of the centre is the customer experience centre, which enables TCS clients from various industries, including healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing, to explore original research concepts firsthand.
IIT Kharagpur Director Professor Virendra Kumar Tewari emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating: "The Advanced Research Center will solidify our strategic collaboration with TCS, underscored by their presence in the newly established IIT KGP Research Park, Kolkata. This partnership marks a significant leap forward in harnessing cutting-edge technologies to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare and automation."
TCS Chief Technology Officer Dr Harrick Vin commented: "We're revolutionizing how industries interact with elite institutions of research and learning. By co-locating our research and innovation labs in academic institutions, we can facilitate a more efficient exchange of knowledge and talent."
