Hunan Province Sets Ambitious Tech Development Goals for 2024
Guangzhou, China - Hunan Province has set ambitious goals to further enhance its technological development and self-reliance in 2024 by achieving breakthroughs in its 10 most important technologies.
According to Governor Mao Weiming, the targeted technologies include the Beidou navigation satellite system, hydrogen-powered heavy trucks, logistics robots, hybrid regenerative rice, and quantum gravity measurement. These technological advancements aim to address bottleneck issues and fill domestic gaps.
Hunan Province has already seen significant progress in its technology sector, with the total output of the industry reaching 45 billion yuan last year, accounting for 8.4 percent of the national total. The province plans to coordinate resources from major universities, research institutes, and enterprises to achieve this year's goals, as well as provide necessary training and support to drive industry growth.
In addition to scientific research, the province will focus on attracting more talent from home and abroad and supporting the development of university disciplines closely aligned with industrial needs. The number of innovative and technological enterprises is expected to exceed 18,000 this year.
The provincial government has allocated significant funds for research investment, reaching 128 billion yuan last year, with the value of technological contract deals amounting to 480 billion yuan. Funds will be used to expand research coverage, support leading major technological research and applications, and encourage capital investment in early-stage projects involving core technologies.
Technological innovation is seen as crucial for Hunan's new energy industry, where companies are investing heavily in achieving breakthroughs in battery technology. A recent development includes the launch of a semi-solid battery that will significantly improve safety and increase endurance mileage by 18 percent and reduce charging time by 30 percent.
However, challenges remain in integrating with international technological and innovation networks, according to experts. Professor Hu Yupeng recommends advanced global cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence to address these challenges.
With its ambitious tech development goals, Hunan Province is set to play a significant role in driving China's technological advancements and achieving self-reliance in the coming years.
