HUMPY WINS WORLD RAPID CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SECOND TIME

Koneru Humpy, India's chess sensation, has done the country proud once again by winning the World Rapid Chess Championship with a dominant performance. Defeating Indonesia's Irene Sukandar in the final, Humpy secured her second world title in the rapid format, cementing her position as one of the top players in the game.

Humpy, who had previously won the championship in 2019 in Georgia, joins China's Ju Wenjun as the only players to have achieved multiple championships in this format. Her victory adds to India's remarkable chess achievements this year, following D Gukesh's dramatic win over China's Ding Liren in the classical format World Championship.

The Indian No. 1, aged 37, accumulated an impressive 8.5 points from 11 rounds to secure her victory. Throughout her career, Humpy has consistently demonstrated excellence in Rapid championships, having secured a bronze medal at the 2012 Moscow event and a silver medal last year in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

In the men's category, Russia's Volodar Murzin, aged 18, claimed the championship, marking his victory as the second-youngest FIDE World Rapid Champion. Murzin's impressive performance places him alongside Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who won the championship at age 17 in 2021.

Humpy's achievement is a testament to her skill and dedication to the game, and Indian chess fans will be eagerly awaiting her next move as she continues to make India proud on the international stage.
