HMV Chief Minister Announces Significant Increase in Prize Money for National Level Players

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday announced that the Himachal Pradesh government will introduce a new policy for national level players soon, as the state contingent headed to the 38th National Games scheduled from January 28 to February 14 in Uttarakhand.

Addressing the 200-member contingent on their way to the Games, the CM said that basic sports infrastructure is being developed at the district level. This initiative aims to create a more conducive environment for athletes to excel in various disciplines.

The statement issued by the government also revealed that the prize money for international sports events has been significantly increased. The CM announced that medalists from Himachal Pradesh can look forward to substantial awards:

  • Gold medallists in Olympic, Winter Olympics, and Paralympics will receive Rs 5 crore (up from Rs 3 crore)
  • Silver medallists will gain access to Rs 3 crore (previously Rs 2 crore)
  • Bronze medallists will collect Rs 2 crore (instead of the earlier Rs 1 crore)

The new policy is expected to provide an added boost to the state's athletes, and it raises hopes for increased participation from Himachal Pradesh in national-level competitions.
