Himachal Pradesh Government Unveils Ambitious Plan to Enhance Medical Infrastructure

Shimla: In a significant move aimed at improving healthcare facilities across the state, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved a series of initiatives to upgrade medical infrastructure and provide specialized treatment options to patients in six state-run medical colleges.
The government has planned to establish departments of Nephrology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, with the creation of 118 new posts across various categories. This move is expected to provide enhanced healthcare facilities to patients from Hamirpur and neighboring districts, including Mandi, Una, Bilaspur, and Kangra.
According to sources, a recent survey conducted by hospital authorities revealed a significant rise in cases of kidney, neurological, and digestive system-related ailments, prompting the government to take immediate action. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Health department to expedite the process of establishing new departments and appointing necessary medical and supportive staff.
In addition to this, the state government has given its nod to establish a department of Nuclear Medicine at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College, Nerchowk in Mandi district. The government has also approved the creation and filling of posts including Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident Doctor, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, and Radiation Safety Officer.
Moreover, the government is focused on upgrading medical technologies and diagnostic services across the state. As part of this initiative, three Tesla MRI machines are being installed at Dr. RPGMC Tanda, Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College, Nerchowk.
The government has announced plans to modernize Chamiyana Hospital in Shimla alongside all medical colleges, zonal, and regional hospitals, with an estimated budget of Rs 200 crore. This project aims to provide world-class treatment facilities within the state while reducing patient dependency on out-of-state healthcare services.
Additionally, 69 health facilities are being upgraded for enhanced levels of care by adding specialist beds and improved diagnostic capabilities. The state government is committed to enhancing medical infrastructure to provide better healthcare options to its citizens.
