Haze Blankets Marine Drive Skyline: Mumbai's Air Pollution Woes Continue

Mumbai (Alaryana.com/News Desk) - A thick layer of haze enveloped Marine Drive in the city, a poignant reminder of the never-ending battle against air pollution. The Metropolitan Region Observatory (MRO) reported an Average Quality Index (AQI) of 133, putting the city in the 'poor' category.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which has come under scrutiny for its handling of construction sites that contribute to air pollution, revised its guidelines issued last year. The civic body plans to form squads at the ward level to conduct regular inspections and enforce compliance with the new rules.
According to the revised guidelines, sensor-based air pollution monitoring systems will be installed at all construction project work sites. Immediate action is expected to be taken if pollution levels are detected above the limit.
"This move aims to ensure a level-playing field for all construction projects in the city," said a BMC spokesperson. "The new measures are designed to minimize emissions and protect the environment."
However, observers note that the implementation of these revised guidelines is crucial to effectively combat air pollution in Mumbai. With the Indian government's National Clean Air Programme aiming to reduce particulate matter (PM) levels by 60% by 2024, the city's residents and authorities are under intense pressure to take drastic measures.
As the city navigates this challenging period, citizens can only watch and wait for meaningful change. For now, Marine Drive remains shrouded in haze, a constant reminder of the need for collective action against air pollution.
