Gujarat Govt Makes Healthcare Registration Mandatory for All Institutions

Ahmedabad, Dec (ANI) - The Gujarat government has made it mandatory for all healthcare institutions in the state to register under the Clinical Establishment Act 2024. The Health Department has launched an extensive campaign to ensure compliance with a deadline of March 12.

Institutions that fail to register within the given time frame may face penalties up to ₹5 lakh. This regulation applies not only to hospitals but also to diagnostic labs, clinics run by medical practitioners and healthcare professionals.

As per official data, a total of 16,698 healthcare facilities in Gujarat have completed either permanent or provisional registration since the campaign began. These registered institutions include 14,647 online-registered medical centers, out of which 1,882 are government-run and 5,268 are private centers.

The Government aims to streamline healthcare operations, enhance service quality and ensure accountability within the sector. The Health Department is urging all unregistered medical facilities to comply with the new regulation to avoid penalties and ensure uninterrupted operations.

Gujarat has witnessed a significant rise in healthcare services since 2001-02, according to data from the Gujarat Hospital Management Information System (GHMIS). The state now boasts of 319 Community Health Centers (CHCs), 1,463 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and 6,575 sub-centers. Additionally, there are over 30 medical colleges and 35 operational hospitals in the state.

Despite these advancements, disparities in maternal health services are reported to persist across districts. For example, only 56 per cent of women receive four or more antenatal care visits in Banaskantha while as many as 95 per cent do in Navsari.

Institutions failing to comply with the new regulation risk hefty penalties and losing accreditation under the Clinical Establishment Act 2024. The Health Department is urging all unregistered medical facilities to seek registration under this legislation before the deadline of March 12.
