GST Deadline Extended to Allow Taxpayers Affected by Technical Glitches
New Delhi, January 10: In a move aimed at providing relief to taxpayers who faced technical difficulties on the GST Network portal, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the deadline for filing monthly GST sales return form GSTR-1 and GST payment until January 13.
The decision comes after GTN reported technical glitches in its system, prompting CBIC to consider an extension. The typical last date for filing GSTR-1 was set at January 11 for monthly return filers and January 13 for quarterly taxpayers. However, with the current issues, the deadline has been pushed to January 13.
Taxpayers registered under the QRMP scheme for the October-December period will also benefit from the extended deadline, which is now set at January 15.
The GST Network acknowledged technical issues on its portal since Thursday and had asked for consideration from CBIC. As a result of the extension request, the last date for filing GSTR-1 for December has been moved to January 13.
For quarterly taxpayers paying GST by filing GSTR-3B for December, the extended deadline is now set at January 22 (previously January 20) and January 24 (previously January 26), depending on state-wise business registration issues.
This move comes as relief for taxpayers who were unable to file their returns in time due to technical difficulties.
