Goyal Arrives in Oman to Push for Advancements in India-Oman Trade Ties
MUSCAT, OMAN - JANUARY 26, 2025: Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal arrived in Muscat on a two-day visit, aimed at taking forward bilateral trade talks between India and Oman.
According to sources, Goyal's visit is seen as an important step towards bolstering India-Oman economic ties. The minister held meetings with his Omani counterparts to discuss ways to promote trade and investment between the two countries.
The talks focused on areas of mutual interest, including hydrocarbons, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. India is one of Oman's largest trading partners in Asia, while Oman enjoys a significant share of Indian imports.
During the visit, Goyal also expressed his country's support for Oman's economic diversification efforts and its participation in regional trade agreements such as the Arab League Free Trade Area (ALFTA).
Goyal's delegation, which included top officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, held extensive discussions with their Omani counterparts on various aspects of trade relations. The talks also covered cooperation in areas like renewable energy and infrastructure development.
The minister is expected to meet with other senior officials of Oman, including the Head of the General Authority for Economic Development (GAD) Sultan Al-Habsi, as well as representatives from major industries such as oil and gas.
These bilateral talks are seen as a significant gesture of confidence between the two nations, amidst India's growing economic profile in Asia. The Indian government has been actively seeking to strengthen relationships with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, driven by their strategic importance both for trade and security.
