JAMMU, Nov 12: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, has announced that his government will encourage talented athletes, while shunting out sports bodies with vested interests. This commitment comes as the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YS&S), J&K, organized the fencing championship at University of Jammu as part of the 68th National School Games.
Addressing the participants and officials during the inaugural ceremony, Sharma emphasized the government's dedication to fostering authentic sports talent, without allowing individuals or groups to misuse their influence for personal gain. He assured that only deserving athletes would receive support and rewards, while ensuring a transparent and fair process.
The Minister highlighted the significance of National School Games as an essential platform for young school athletes to demonstrate their skills at a national level. "These games provide opportunities for young athletes to gain exposure, develop discipline, and build competitive spirit," Sharma stated.
Furthermore, Sharma emphasized that the games promote a healthy lifestyle among youth, addressing the need for them to engage in sports activities while contributing to their overall personality development.
The Minister also paid tribute to parents, coaches, and sports teachers for their unwavering support during these events. He reiterates his commitment to promoting young talent and robust sports infrastructure across the state, ensuring that future athletes receive world-class facilities.
Sharma expressed hope that with the backing of Prime Minister, Lieutenant Governor, and coordination from Sports Ministry, a new era of sports culture can unfold in Jammu Kashmir, equipped with modern infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals and deterring excessive mobile use while promoting physical activity among youth.
Secretary YS&S, Sarmad Hafeez, praised the Jammu and Kashmir administration for successfully organizing the National School Games, while emphasizing that there's still room to expand their efforts to strengthen sports ecosystems in the region.
