Government Introduces National Sports Governance Bill 2024 to Tackling Factionalism in Sports Federations

New Delhi: The government has brought forward a major initiative aimed at strengthening sports governance by introducing the National Sports Governance Bill 2024, designed to combat factionalism and mismanagement within National Sports Federations (NSFs).

The bill, a long-awaited reform, seeks to restore transparency and accountability in the functioning of sports bodies. Currently open for public comments and suggestions, it is seen as a crucial step towards addressing the challenges faced by NSFs.

According to Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the introduction of the National Sports Governance Bill 2024 marks an urgent need to address unprofessionalism within NSFs. This comes in the wake of ongoing controversies, including last year's wrestlers' protest that highlighted the lack of accountability and leadership in federations.

"The government will work to resolve issues concerning NSFs over six months after the bill becomes law," Mandaviya assured, stating that he expects the bill to be tabled during the upcoming Budget session.
