Government Emphasizes Technology in Implementing New Criminal Laws
NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday underscored the importance of utilizing technology in the implementation of the new criminal laws, aiming to enhance the system's efficiency and speed up the justice delivery process.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Shah advocated for the use of alerts at predefined stages and timelines to inform investigators about critical milestones throughout the entire judicial process, particularly at every stage from registration to case closure. This would benefit victims and complainants equally.
Moreover, Shah suggested alerting investigation officers and senior administrative officials according to predetermined schedules in order to expediting the investigative procedure. The meeting aimed to assess the implementation of various software and databases concerning investigations, prosecution, forensics, and courts at a national level.
Additionally, this assembly discussed the integration of systems like the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), the nationwide Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), prisons, courts, prosecutors, and forensics in conjunction with an enhanced variant of the Interoperable Criminal Justice System 2.0 (ICJS).
On Tuesday morning, Shah also participated in a conference at this location on implementing new criminal laws in Uttar Pradesh's state capital, where he met with the DGP and state Chief Secretary in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Mobilizing Dhami to fully implement these ordinances — which Shah emphasized as “guarantors of civil rights” and the foundation of “the right to swift justice” — at the earliest possible, he urged that gaps must be closed in technology sectors for complete rollout.During discussions with NCRB officials, Sha directed them to facilitate thorough implementation of new laws under ICJS 2.0 while also making use of tools like eSakshya , Nyaya shruti, eSign and eSummons within each state.
