November 10, 2024, SRINAGAR - In a significant announcement for sports enthusiasts in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, declared the government's commitment to developing top-tier sports facilities across the region. The announcement was made following the conclusion of the Talent Hunt U-19 Cricket Tournament in Safapora, Ganderbal.
Minister Sharma emphasized the government's intent to not only enhance sports infrastructure but also to actively promote local talent. "We are dedicated to nurturing sports culture in J&K. In line with the Chief Minister's vision, we will soon see the introduction of water sports at Manasbal Lake," he stated.
The event, organized by the Friends Humanitarian Trust, showcased the enthusiasm for cricket with participation from 16 teams over a span from June to November 2024. The Minister highlighted the upcoming Chief Minister’s Cup, which will be a multi-sport event held in every constituency, aiming to bridge the gaps in sports development that have widened over the last 11 years.
"Under the directive of our Chief Minister, we will host the CM’s Cup in each constituency, featuring all major sports. Moreover, marathons will be organized to further spotlight local athletic talent," Sharma added during his interaction with the players and organizers.
The ceremony concluded with the Minister distributing trophies, certificates, sports kits, and cash prizes to participants, acknowledging their efforts and encouraging continued participation in sports. The local Under-15 cricket team and the event organizers were also honored with sports kits.
This initiative marks a pivotal step in the government's broader strategy to elevate the sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir, promising a brighter future for aspiring athletes in the region.
