KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Google Cloud has announced the release of NotebookLM Plus, the latest iteration of its AI-powered research assistant NotebookLM, tailored specifically for Google Workspace customers. The updated tool offers robust additional functionalities, enhanced security features, and increased control over data ownership to organizations.
Time Magazine's 'Best Inventions of 2024' pick, NotebookLM has been widely adopted by millions of individuals and institutions worldwide, providing users with valuable insights from essential data. Users can upload source documents such as Google Docs, Slides, PDFs, web URLs, and text to generate engaging information outputs like summaries, briefings, and audio overviews.
The new NotebookLM Plus introduces a range of organisational enhancements, including better data analysis capabilities, custom format options, and the ability to share notebooks with teams. These features aim to increase collaboration among team members while ensuring that all sources, queries, and responses are kept within the organisation's secure domain.
According to Google Cloud, only approved Google Workspace documents can be used with NotebookLM Plus, which provides customers with more control over who has access to their notebooks. Furthermore, the new version incorporates robust enterprise-grade data protection measures, guaranteeing that uploaded data remains confidential and does not contribute to training models or undergo human review.
The launch of NotebookLM Plus marks an expanded deployment of AI-powered tools to support various sectors, from education to marketing and sales teams. Educational institutions can utilize it to generate valuable teaching aids such as lesson plans, quizzes, and discussion topics.
Google Cloud Country Director at Google Malaysia, Farhan Qureshi, highlighted the significance of AI in public service transformations during the launch, which also marks a significant deployment of AI capabilities across various sectors.
To cater to different customer preferences, NotebookLM Plus will be made available independently through Google Cloud as well as via Gemini for Google Workspace. A consumer version is planned to be introduced later this year through Google One AI Premium by early 2025 for general market access.
