Gokhale Bridge Work Misses Deadline Again; Murder of Nine-Year-Old Boy Rocks Mumbai

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has once again missed the deadline to lower the second girder of the Gokhale bridge, which now stands 15 meters high. The corporation had set a completion deadline for two lanes by May 2023 and four lanes by the end of that year but has been unable to meet these targets.

In related news, a nine-year-old boy was abducted and murdered in Santacruz on Saturday evening during Chhath Puja celebrations. The accused, a 31-year-old garment shop worker named Maheshwar Mukhiya, was arrested by the police after being identified by eyewitnesses.

The city's equity markets began the day on Monday with a decline, affected by foreign fund selling and weakening market sentiment in the US. The BSE Sensex decreased 156.72 points to reach an intraday low of 77,423.59, while the NSEL Nifty fell 64.25 points to trade at around 23,468.45.
