GoI Unveils Three New Criminal Laws with Focus on Advanced Technologies and Integration
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting to discuss the nationwide implementation of three new criminal laws, with a focus on integrating advanced technologies in modernizing India's criminal justice system.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), and NIC, marked an important step towards implementing the new laws. The aim is to streamline judicial and investigative processes while ensuring transparency, timeliness, and efficiency in case resolution.
Key highlights of the meeting include:
- The rollout of the nationwide implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) 2.0 and National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
- Integration of these systems with courts, prisons, prosecution, and forensics under the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) 2.0.
- Utilization of applications such as eSakshya, Nyaya Shruti, eSign, and eSummons to enhance efficiency in the judicial system.
The Home Minister emphasized the importance of adopting cutting-edge technologies like biometric identification systems to improve tracking of unidentified dead bodies, missing persons, and reduce identity fraud in criminal investigations.
On-the-ground support for States/UTs has been assured with teams visiting these entities to provide technical support, increase adoption rates of technological solutions, and address local implementation challenges.
Regular monitoring and collaboration with senior police formations will be carried out to facilitate progress of the projects.
A New Era of Victim-Centric Justice Begins
By focusing on integration of technology, modernising judicial processes and streamlines service delivery, the GoI's push for these three new laws marks an important milestone in modernizing India’s Criminal Justice System. With the assistance of biometric technologies combined with enhanced tools like eSakshya, Nyaya Shruti, eSign, and eSummons, victim support services will see a major leap forward as per government guidelines.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has emphasized that the objective behind these modern changes is to uphold justice across all classes regardless of regional disparities. Efforts are now underway by setting high standards for modernized systems being put into place across India.
