Glasgow 2026 Announces Comprehensive Medal Event Programme for 23rd Commonwealth Games

Glasgow, Scotland - The organising company of the 23rd Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2026, has unveiled its medal event programme, featuring a record-breaking number of para sport, track cycling, and swimming events.

The games will take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, across four venues within an eight-mile corridor of the city, showcasing a fully integrated para sport programme. The Programme includes six sports with Commonwealth Games records for para disciplines, with a total of 47 medal events in para disciplines.

Speaking on the announcement, Chief Executive Phil Batty OBE, stated that Glasgow 2026 aims to provide something for everyone with its action-packed programmes across all four venues. "This is a bridge to the Commonwealth Games of tomorrow, and we have a clear vision that it will be brilliantly different," he said.

Athletes can expect an exceptional sporting experience this year, as the games feature a track cycling programme with 26 medal events in total. The para track cycling programme has doubled in size from Birmingham 2022 and includes eight medals available, making these races highly anticipated for fans and athletes alike.

Additionally, Glasgow will witness the most extensive swim programme in Commonwealth Games history, with 56 medal events in total across both para and non-para competitions. For the first time, men's and women's 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle races have been included on the schedule.

Other sports that are part of the event include artistic gymnastics, athletics (with a return of the Commonwealth Mile), judo, netball, strength & powerlifting with the para discipline of powerlifting also taking place; 3×3 basketball for both men and women at an eight-team format (up from 12) but all Para versions, as well as bowls.

According to Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation Katie Sadleir CNZM, "This compelling medal event programme continues the red thread of innovation that is a key component of Glasgow 2026’s compelling concept.”
