Geospatial Science School Set Up in Patna to Promote Technology for Sustainable Development
Patna, Bihar - In an effort to harness the power of geospatial technology for the nation's sustainable development, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has set up a 21-day winter school on geospatial science and technology. The event was sponsored by the National Geospatial Programme (NGP) of the department of science and technology (DST), government of India.
Vice-chancellor of CUSB, Kameshwar Nath Singh, has expressed optimism about implementing the 'Viksit Bharat by 2047' mission successfully with the help of technological innovations. He highlighted the growing applications of geospatial technology in solving societal problems of the present day.
Singh noted that the applications of NGP during the last three decades have already proven their importance in meeting various modern challenges, and called upon academics to carry out detailed studies on the modes of application of the programme for mitigating human miseries and ensuring all-round development of the nation.
Nearly two dozen academics from institutions across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat are participating in this winter school. The venue was welcomed by CUSB geology department head and convener of the event, Prafull Kumar Singh, who outlined the objectives of the course as a capacity-building exercise to promote entrepreneurship.
According to Singh, the winter school would equip participants with the skills necessary for addressing climate change issues, particularly in the Bihar region. Director of R&D cell at CUSB, Durg Vijay Singh, highlighted the potential of geospatial technology and capacity-building programmes in achieving sustainability goals related to agriculture, forest, food security, defence, and environment.
The event concluded on a note of appreciation from faculty member, K M Sharma, who proposed a vote of thanks.
